Iinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 and now updated to 12.10 (64 Bit) on Acer Aspire One 722's in a whole class in school. At my own and some of the pupils computers we have boot problems: The computers start normally, since they stop with a "bright black" (screen is obviously turned on but black) screen.

Ihave just acquired the acer 5742z which came with a very cracked lcd screen. but it worked ok. Then next day i switched it on and all i got was a black screen. No attempt to post or boot. Hieveryone, my laptop (Acer Aspire 5541) worked well till this Sunday, I leave it in suspended mode, and in the morning - it doesn't bott anymore. Now I tooked out the bios battery and solder it back, and tryed with all deatached only motherboard - still the same black screen, no logo, no press F2 message - noothing. Just power led is on
Thelaptop turns normally but the problem comes with the screen. Sometimes the screen will just work fine all day long, I will turn the computer on and of with no issues but other times the computer will turn on while the screen remains absolutely black. Other times it will go blanck and will start blinking.
Iam running directly off the power cord right now without any battery connected. I actually lost the battery and ordered a new one today since the old one didn't hold a charge and had to be connected to AC power at all times. It is supposed to deliver on 4/12. Unless a new battery fixes this problem my black screen etc. issue still persists.

Heres my issue: - can move cursor. -ctrl+alt+delete does not respond. -reboot to safemode, safemode command ended with same black screen. I can reboot and start CDs. I have tried putting in my windows 7 cd and repairing and no luck there either. After the repair it goes to black screen again.

1 check on Program and features if your display drivers are listed and uninstall. 2) go to Device manager, click on display adatpers, right click on your Radeon and choose uninstall. Then reboot and see if the black screen issue is solved, then re-install AMD VGA drivers. I'm not an Acer employee.

Ive fixed a few all-in-ones that had this issue. These had graphic cards in them so i replaced the card and it worked.
